Excited about the Passat B8? Book it now!

Volkswagen’s flagship model, the Passat is now ready for pre-booking in Malaysia.

The latest Passat, the B8, has been gaining a tonne of attention since its unveiling earlier this month. The D-Segment vehicle now boasts an impressive virtual cockpit called the Active Info Display, lifted off the Audi sister company, that acts as a wide screen digital display of everything the driver needs.

Three model variants will be available – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline, ranging from RM160,000 to RM199,000. Exterior modifications are not extensive but buyers do get to choose from a wider range of colours – Pure White, Deep Black, Reflex Silver, Indium Grey, Crimson Red, Black Oak Brown and Harvard blue. You also enjoy a comforting five-year manufacturer’s warranty.

The Trendline and Comfortline come with 1.8L TSI units mated to an updated version of the seven-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG) to provide a reasonable 177bhp and 250Nm of torque.

Highline model owners enjoy 217bhp and 350Nm 2.0L TSI Turbocharged engine from as low as 1500rpm to 4400rpm. Making full use of the extra power is a six-speed direct shift gearbox (DSG). The Highline will also be the only variant to come with the Active Info Display system which replaces traditional dials and is fully customisable to your preference.

Unique to the Highline are safety features such as Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), Electronic Differential Lock (XDS) and Lane Assist. A neat trick the B8 has is the Park Assist system that allows the driver to sit back in a cold sweat while the car parks itself. This system is only available for the Highline and Comfortline as is the Easy Open trunk sensor that can open the trunk by sensing a foot.

With the amount of gadgets and luxuries on board, the Passat B8 is stepping into the ring against the likes of BMW’s 3 series and Mercedes’s C-class but with a lower price tag. Could it be a justifiable alternative to the other famed German car makers?
