A Desert Spec Bug

Volkswagen launched a beefy rugged Beetle called the Beetle Dune.

Stealing the limelight from the launch of the all new Passat B8 is this 'Sandstorm Yellow' Beetle. A throwback to the American dune buggies of the 1960's and 1970's, the Beetle Dune is made to give off a sense of adventure and vigour.

Subtlety has not been applied to the Beetle Dune as it is designed to stand out with its black stripes, redesigned front and rear bumper, an aggressive rear spoiler and dramatic 18-inch 'Canyon' alloy wheels. You could attempt to take the Beetle Dune off road since it has an extra 10mm of ground clearance over the normal Beetle.

Under the hood is a 148bhp and 250Nm 1.4L TSI engine mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox that it shares with the MK7 Golf. The bright yellow exterior continues inside as well on the dashboard and also matching yellow stitching.

Accessories and gadgets remain unchanged with Xenon headlights, LED Daytime running lights, Dual-zone automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel with the word DUNE on it and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment unit.

The Beetle Dune is priced at just RM179,990 but only 50 units have been brought to Malaysia from Mexico.
