All-New Toyota Innova goes EEV and gets a price drop

The All-New Innova launches in Malaysia with a reduced price thanks to its EEV incentive.

The All-New Innova certainly earns its All-New claim having not only gone through cosmetic changes but also upgrades in the interior, under the hood as well as the safety front. The new design gives the Innova a more premium image with lashings of chrome and swooping lines on the exterior. Inside you will find, on the higher variants, a leather wrapped steering wheel, further silver and chrome trims and LED ambient lighting around the ceiling. Customers have the option to spec their Innova with touchscreen infotainment systems with or without a GPS function.

Toyota have brought the Innova into the modern age with equipment such as Smart Entry and Start System, automatic climate control for the front and rear passengers and even a cooler box at the front. Long journeys ought to be comfortable and peaceful with enhanced insulation to lower cabin noise. Assisting the driver with his duties is a 4.2-inch Multi Information Display that relays vital numbers such as fuel consumption to the driver.

Earning its EEV status is the 2-litre 1TR-FE power plant. Featuring Dual VVT-i and mated to a six-speed ECT gearbox, fuel efficiency has improved by 18 per cent over the model it replaces. The engine itself has been worked on by Toyota to reduce weight and friction in the pursuit of efficiency. Despite prioritizing  fuel consumption, Toyota haven't left out power. With 135bhp and 183Nm to play with the Innova makes decent speed. The gearbox comes with intelligent gear selection such as AI Shift Control that monitors throttle response and Deceleration Downshift Control help maximise fuel-cut benefits.  For the more enthusiastic drivers, sequential control mode allows you to manually select the gears.

Being an MPV that will carry families, Toyota have made significant upgrades in the safety department. Multiple Active Safety Systems such as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), ABS with EBD, Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist Control are on hand to keep things in check. All variants will receive seven SRS airbags, including airbags for the drivers knees, for a complete protection inside the vehicle. All these safety efforts have been strengthened by a five-stars Adult Occupant Protection rating by ASEAN NCAP and also a Grand Prix Award (MPV Category) for best points in Child Occupant Protection.

The refreshed second generation MPV will be assembled at UMWT's plant in Shah Alam, Selangor just like its predecessor. The All-New Innova is shaping up to be a strong contender in the MPV market. With an aim to shift 4000 units in 2017, Toyota are already on the way having received 500 bookings so far.
