Renault sends the Koleos into their new design era

Renault renews the love for their flagship SUV, it's now bigger and better than ever.

Premiered globally at the Beijing Motor Show this year, Malaysia will be the first of the South East Asian lot to be making the acquaintance of the brand new SUV.

The first thing that you will notice is that the Renault Koleos now bares the company’s latest design language that we first saw on the Renault Clio back in 2012. The Koleos is the last of Renault’s cars to bear the new design language hence the SUV will bear the evolved version of the design that the world first saw in the Renault Talisman and the facelift Megane.

With that stylish new front grille paired with a set of stylish DRLs that will point the eye towards air-gills on the side of the car, the Koleos is a sight to behold when it comes driving down the highway. The good looks continue on to the rear end as well with the new signature tail-lights and chrome inserts that make up the twin exhaust tail pipes.

Renault has lengthened the Koleos to measure at 4672mm allowing engineers to stretch the wheelbase to measure at 2705mm. This measurement has, in turn, allowed designers make full use of the space a wider wheelbase will afford them to give passengers unrivalled leg room and massive amount of boot space.

Interior space is the biggest selling point for the Koleos as even with a tall person seated at the front and the back, Renault has recorded a total of 289mm of rear leg room space for the rear passengers. Not only do rear passengers get a massive amount of leg room, they will also get plenty of head room, shoulder room and elbow room as well.

There is also plenty of boot space. Renault is proud to announce that the boot now measures at 550dm3 VDA boot. The boot also boasts a clever removable floor positioned at the same height as the boot. Renault also made sure to include storage boxes within the interior space itself that measures at 35-litre box, an 11-litre glove box and a seven-litre cubby in the centre console respectively.

The seats are made of variable density foam and upholstered in Titan Black leather, but only the driver’s seat gets the six-way power adjustment and also lumbar support. Renault has made sure to take the possibility of a large family into mind and covered the rest of the interior with scratch resistant materials such as the satin-finish chrome on the steering wheel, gear lever and air vent inserts and the protective film that covers the centre console.

In terms of connectivity, the Koleos boasts the new R-LINK 2 multimedia system that is displayed on an 8.7-inch tablet like screen in the centre of the dashboard. The touchscreen has the same tactile functions as a personal tablet, it’s got a realistic navigation display and voice recognition for you to order the system around. If you need more applications, then just head to the R-LINK store to download and install them on your Koleos!

For safety features, the Koleos comes armed with active safety features like the usual electronic stability control, traction control, braking assist, electronic brake force distribution and hill start assist. While passive safety systems include six airbags, blind spot warning system along with anti-whiplash head rests for all seats and anti-submarining front seats.

Powering the Koleos is a familiar 2.5-litre petrol engine that is mated to a new X-Tronic CVT. The engine is capable of 173bhp and a peak torque of 226Nm that is available from as low as 1800rpm.

Renault is offering the Koleos in four different colours: Universal White, Grey Metallic, Black Metallic and Meissen Blue. 18-inch Argonaute alloy wheels comes standard with the flagship SUV. The Renault Koleos is tagged with a price tag of RM172,800 on the road without insurance for Peninsular Malaysia and comes complete with a five-year full manufacturer’s warranty with unlimited mileage.

Interested? The Koleos will not be officially on sale until somewhere in mid-October but order books are open so you can put your name down on one as soon as possible. But if you need to know more about the SUV, luckily for you Renault is holding a preview for all at Midvalley Megamall, Centre Court on from 7th to 11th September 2016.
