NextEV NIO EP9 is the fastest electric supercar in the world

This new electric supercar takes EV to new heights with a ‘Ring lap time of 7 minutes and 5.12 seconds

Everytime Tesla unleashes something they never fail to grab headlines. Well not surprising considering the Tesla Model S is not your typical EV. With a 0-100kph time of 2.5 seconds, Tesla had taken the EV concept into new heights, and NextEV isn’t happy of that. Keen to show that they could do a better job, NextEV unveils their own interpretation of a high performance EV and by the looks of it, we have no complains so far.

It is called the NIO EP9. Unveiled at a launch event in London, this new supercar isn’t only pleasing to look at as it also features a bunch of mind-boggling numbers to remind everyone that it means serious business.

Let’s start with the performance of this electric supercar. Fitted with four high-performance inboard motors and four individual gearboxes, the EP9 rolls with a towering output of 1341bhp, similar to what you’ll get from a Koenigsegg One:1. With such power, 0-200kph is dealt with in just 7.1 seconds and has a top speed of 313kph.

And to demonstrate that the EP9 and its performance figures aren’t just for show, it recently blitzed around the infamous ‘Green Hell’ and managed to clock a time of 7 minutes and 5.12 seconds around the 20.8km circuit, beating the previous EV lap record. The EP9 didn’t stop there as it went to the Circuit Paul Ricard as well, and once again established its dominance by toppling the previous EV record of 2 minutes 40 seconds with its 1 minute 52.78 seconds.

The EP9 features a carbon cockpit and chassis that embodies a new approach to performance vehicle design in order to withstand the physical demands of a car with 3G cornering capabilities. It also comes with an interchangeable battery system that allows the EP9 to be fully charged in 45 minutes and has a travel range of 427km.
