The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupe makes local debut with 496bhp

Affalterbach’s latest offering is a road car packed with racing DNA

Every time Mercedes-Benz comes up with a new C-Class, it’s hard not to be excited for their next AMG-tuned brother to arrive. And it seems we weren’t the only ones being pumped up as, in celebrating their third Formula One constructors’ title at the same time, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia proudly unveils the all-new C 63 S Coupe.

“As the latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz Dream Car Collection, the C 63 S Coupe clearly marks the next performance level of AMG. It offers our customers the experience of first-hand excellence in its muscular design that distinctly holds the AMG DNA with the undisputed power delivery of a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine from Affalterbach,” said the Vice President of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, Mark Raine.

The current C-Class already looks stunning with its sleek body lines and the sexy DRL-trailed headlights, and the AMG treatment just bestows the C 63 S Coupe with a whole new character. In fact, the only exterior parts that the C 63 S Coupe shares from its base model are just the doors, roof and boot lid.

Gaining that iconic muscular look from AMG, the C 63 S Coupe gets the compulsory flared wheel arches to accommodate the wider tires for better grip. The aluminium bonnet had also gained a couple of ‘power domes’ and is now 60mm longer.

Aside from the typical AMG A-wing designed to deflect air to the three cooling air intakes, the front splitter is in place to help reduce front-axle lift. Over to the rear, the C 63 S Coupe gets inspiration from the S-Class Coupe where has been completely redesigned and now includes a diffuser.

Hailed as “the most powerful V8 model in its segment”, the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine underneath the hood is not what you’d like to mess around with. The 496bhp and 700Nm of torque enables the C 63 S Coupe to sprint from 0-100kph in just 3.9 seconds and will keep on accelerating until it hits the top speed of 290kph.

This already makes the C 63 S Coupe sounds like a loud machine, and it will probably be louder if you flick the Sport+ or Race driving mode where the AMG roar is far more dominant. But if you are worried of getting complaints from the neighbours, the Comfort driving mode adjusts the exhaust flaps for a subtler soundtrack.

Sending the power to torture the rear tires is the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed transmission that offers faster shifting times than the previous model. Transmission response time in Sport+ and manual mode are even faster, thanks to the optimization of the transmission’s hardware and software.

Since the C 63 S Coupe offers the best of both worlds, the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension is fitted to allow the driver to experience either a comfortable drive or a razor-sharp agility at the touch of a button.

If there was ever such thought that the C 63 S Coupe isn’t really sporty enough and could need a couple of tinkering here and there, Mercedes had got you covered with the options from the AMG Performance Studio. One could either opt for the AMG Night package, the AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre package, or for a fancier cabin, the AMG Performance Studio interior. The C 63 S Coupe is also available in the Edition 1 configuration inspired by the appearance of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM racing cars.

The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupe is now available at a price tag (OTR without insurance) of RM 773,888, and RM 795,888 for the Edition 1.
