Local Automotive Companies Benefiting from IMI Graduates

Internationally qualified technicians from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) help improve automotive companies quality and service.

IMI have a wide range of technical and non-technical qualifications that are available in over 27 countries around the world. Malaysia alone accounts for an average of 1500 candidates per year.

Jace Phoon, Executive Director of Manfred Auto Academy said, “IMI diplomas are very well-recognised by automotive companies in Malaysia and we find IMI qualifications to be the most up-to-date when it comes to producing technicians that are ready and relevant for the workplace. Candidates who gain skills and knowledge benchmarked to international standards will also have opportunity for stronger career progression. This is vital for our students, many of whom are between the ages of 18 to 24 years”.

Matthew Stuart, Senior Manager of IMI South-East Asia, said that IMI has received feedback that employers have more confidence in IMI qualified candidates as they have undergone an international standard training program.

Stuart added,  “It is important for trained candidates to be able to demonstrate occupational competence in their workplace and perform to the highest industry standards. When customers are assured that their vehicles are serviced and maintained according to internationally recognised standards, there will be greater customer satisfaction and this leads to higher repeat sales and ultimately increased revenue per employee for the automotive companies”.

An example of that is Ng Wai Kit, a 20-year old technician with 2 year IMI L3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair under his belt, now works at a car workshop that services and repairs high end luxury cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Audi. Ng obtained his training at Manfred Auto Academy, one of IMI's training partners since 2013, and is based in Penang.

Ng's employer is glad to hire IMI graduates since Ng shows more competence and skill in his duties thanks to his IMI training.
