Five-Stars for Hyundai's IONIQ

Euro NCAP has rated the All-New Hyundai IONIQ a Five Star safety rating thanks to a smattering of safety features on board.

Hyundai's leap into electric mobility with the IONIQ has been further graced with safety, achieving the five star rating in four categories: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist. All of these prove that Hyundai have paid attention to what buyers look for and made one of the safest cars in its segment.

“The five-star rating from Euro NCAP for the IONIQ underlines the benefits of Hyundai Motor’s approach to democratising technology,” says Thomas A. Schmid, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Europe. “State-of- the-art active safety features are fitted as standard in all versions making the IONIQ one of the safest cars in its segment and a safe and accessible e-mobility choice for customers.”

The class leading active safety technology that comes standard on the IONIQ is the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) that uses front radar and camera sensors to warn the driver, controls the braking force in a collision situation and then applies maximum braking force when absolutely necessary. This ensures that the car does not slow down too fast and get rear ended by the car behind. The same system stays on alert for pedestrians at speeds above 8kph to avoid collision or as minimum damage as possible.

Beside The Smart Cruise Control, other systems such as the Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert all play vital roles in warning and assisting the driver to maintain safe driving.

Being a car that is targeted to be a volume seller, the IONIQ's shell itself has been designed and built to be rigid and safe for its occupants. Thanks to a chassis made of Advanced High Strength Steel lightness and rigidity is taken care of while high impact energy absorption protects the passengers. Inside, a total of seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag, keep you safe from major injuries in the event of a collision.

With an affordable price, impressive efficiency and five star safety, the IONIQ is shaping up to be a strong competitor in its segment.
