Honda opens up their third manufacturing plant in China

The new plant is scheduled to become operational in the first half of 2019 with an annual production capacity of 120,000 units

In order to meet the increasing demand of Honda vehicles in China, Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co. Ltd. recently announced their plans to build a third automobile production plant in the country. The announcement included a ground breaking event in Wuhan, China, where a number of top officials were also present, including the President, Chief Executive Officer and Representative Director of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Takahiro Hachigo.

“The Chinese market has potential for further development and growth. In order to continue meeting such strong demand, Honda will introduce its highly attractive products equipped with leading-edge technologies to the Chinese market ahead of other markets around the world and deliver joys to our customers here in China,” said Takahiro.

The new plant will be built approximately 8km southeast from their first plant within the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development District. An investment of around 3 million RMB will be poured into the 1.2 million-square-meter plot and is expected to become operational in the first half of 2019, with an annual production capacity of 120,000 units.

Once the third plant becomes operational, Dongfeng Honda’s overall annual production will rise to 600,000, at the same time increasing Honda’s overall automobile production capacity in China to 1.25 million units. This overall figure has included the units produced by Guanqi Honda and Honda Automobile (China) Co., Ltd.
