Caltex Delo 400 MGX; the one oil for all

New formulation lengthens oil change intervals up to 80,000km.

The diversity in fuel quality around the globe is a tricky minefield for lubricant companies to navigate as the differing sulphur content in diesel elicits a need for a lubricant that can gratify the requirements of diesel with vast variances in sulphur content as well as older and newer engines.

Aimed at the commercial industry, Chevron; represented here by the Caltex brand, has launched the Caltex Delo 400 MGX 15W-40 that is a jack of all trades, allowing customers to utilise just one heavy duty engine oil that is capable of operating efficiently in both high- and low-sulphur diesel fuel environments.

The availability of Euro 2M and Euro 5 grade diesels here means the sulphur content of the fuel ranges between 15 and 5000ppm. Caltex Delo 400 MGX is specially formulated for all major heavy industries such as commercial transportation, construction, mining, agriculture, and power generation that run on Euro 2M or Euro 5 diesel.

Extensive testing in trucks that run on up to 5000ppm diesel fuel sulphur levels demonstrated its ability in neutralising harmful acids while at the same time retaining its alkalinity in extended-drain operations in both high- and low-sulphur environments.

Key to its versatility is the Isosyn Technology that combined premium base oils with high performance additives with the company’s formulation to provide excellent protection for diesel engine parts. The resultants are excellent soot dispersancy as well as wear protection and sludge control to guard against loss of engine life and reduce oil consumption.

From a cost perspective, the Delo 400 MGX SAE 15W-40 can function as a single fleet oil, being applicable in a fleet that employs a range of vehicles from older engines to newer engines and Euro 2M to Euro 5 diesel.

The Malaysian commercial vehicle sector uses 80 million litres of engine oil a year and a single fleet oil has the potential for massive savings on the side of the operators and could appeal to non-Delo users now, increasing Chevron’s market share.

Additionally, the properties of the oil allow it to increase the service interval for operators up to 80,000km in low sulphur diesel engines. Even in engines running on a high sulphur content, the service interval is extended. This means less downtime and less costs for maintenance; translating into more savings.

Furthermore, it adheres to various OEM (original equipment manufacturer) requirements and performance specifications such as Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Renault, MAN Trucks, Mack Trucks and the engine manufacturer Cummins.

Delo 400 MGX has been on sale in Malaysia since last month at a price of RM9.50 a litre, giving customers engine oil with synthetic feel and benefits but at mineral cost.
