BMW answers the petrolhead call for quality movies

Remember “The Hire” series by BMW Films? Well it’s back and better

“These are serious pieces of work. They’re short films but they’re serious filmmakers doing what they do best.” Clive Owens pretty much sums up BMW Films “The Hire” Series that was aired in the early 2000s.

Sure, the short films were essentially BMW ads but these weren’t your run of the mill smoke and mirrors show. There were Hollywood action movie grade ads that were directed and starred by some of Tinseltown’s finest such as Guy Ritchie, John Woo, Ang Lee, Madonna, Mickey Rourke and Gary Oldman; not to forget Owens in his role as The Driver, which he’ll be reprising in the latest round of short films.

The Hire series’ were so good that even if you weren’t into BMWs or even a petrolhead for that matter, you couldn’t help but watch it. A short trailer on the BMW Films website previews the next short film with a Bimmer in the lead, titled “The Escape” and from the behind-the-scenes snippets, you’d think it was the set for a Hollywood action blockbuster.

Apart from Owens in the lead role, other A-listers in the cast include Jon Bernthal, Dakota Fanning and Vera Farmiga. Helming the director’s chair will be Neill Blomkamp that also directed hits such as Elysium and District 9.

The Escape is set for its debut on 23 October.
