Who's going to clinch the BMW Shorties 2016?

BMW Group Malaysia have released their list of 12 finalists for the tenth edition of the BMW Shorties this year.

2016 sees the highest number of submissions ever for the prestigious short film competition, a total of 115 films. Regularly judges will shortlist the submissions to a number of 10 finalist but with the level of quality this time, they have expanded the finalists to 12.

Judging the decade old short film festival will be Lina Tan, Liew Seng Tat, Nadira Ilana Lee Chatametikool from Thailand and Yuni Hadi from Singapore. All these judges have excelled and made a name for themselves respectively in various areas of the film industry.

Lina Tan, a returning judge for the sixth time this year, said, “In my years of being a BMW Shorties judge, the judging process this year is by far the most challenging one due to the drastically improved quality observed in most of the submissions. The entries brought with them such a diversity of approaches to film making alongside an impressive quality such which demanded an exceptionally critical deliberation from the judging panel.” With Nadira Ilana, Lee Chatametikool and Lina Tan expressing their admiration at the competition submissions, it's safe to say that they have their work cut out to narrow down on a final winner.

The winner of the BMW Shorties 2016 will receive a RM75,000 production grant together with promising prospects in the filmmaking industry.
