A new model for the VW B-segment lovers

Volkswagen turns the winds with the newly introduced Vento.

Vento, the word literally translate into “wind” in Italian and Portuguese, Volkswagen hopes that the Vento will come in as a strong wind and blow the crowd away in a good way. The Volkswagen Vento will replace the Polo Sedan as VW’s B-segment sedan model and unlike the Polo Sedan, the Vento will come with a choice of three variants.

Trendline is the entry level choice for all who are in the market for a B-Segment sedan and is priced at RM80,635, Comfortline plays the middle child and is priced at RM87,635 while the Highline sits at the top of the line priced at RM94,635. All prices quoted are on-the-road without insurance.

There are two engine options as well, the 1.6-litre engine tacked to a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox with Tiptronic function will power the Comfortline and Trendline. The engine has record numbers of 104bhp and 153Nm with a fuel consumption reading of 6.5-litre per 100km.

The award winning 1.2-litre turbocharged direct injection TSI engine will power the Highline, the engine also produces an output of 104bhp but paired with the seven-speed DSG has a bigger torque reading of 175Nm at 1500rpm to 4100rpm. Fuel consumption readings are lower at 5.5-litre per 100km as well.

VW has made sure the make the Vento easily recognisable as part of the VW family, the Vento shares almost all the trades of the bigger VW sibling that we know as the Passat. Call the Vento the Baby Passat if you want to, the Vento comes with new chrome grill that flows into character lines to give the car contour and definition.

Owners will have the option to spruce up the Vento with 16-inch Syenit alloy wheels. The rear of the car is framed by new tail lamps while smoked head lamps are installed on the front paired with a set of redesigned fog lamps. VW has also added a height adjuster into the headlamps allowing drivers to manual adjust the lamps.

Interior wise, the Vento is almost unrecognisable as a Volkswagen. While the centre console with the large multi-function display are still familiar elements, the first thing that greets drivers is a brand new multi-function leather steering wheel that is tilt and telescopic adjustable. The seats are wrapped in “Cable” fabric upholstery while the dashboard spots a new silver finish to give it a sleek look and feel.

All three variants come with cruise control that is controlled via the signal stalk. All four windows have automatic one touch up/down functions, the coolest thing about the windows is that they can be controlled remotely! There is a Climatronic air conditioning system in the Vento and rear air-vents for the passengers as well.

Like all VW cars, the Vento is also constructed using laser welding making it stronger and safer. Other safety features include ESC and four airbags, ABS, Intelligent Crash Response System to govern the safety of the car. There is also an anti-theft alarm system with interior surveillance system on the Vento.

Volkswagen Malaysia has already been receiving orders from the Vento, all orders since before the launch and for the time being will receive a special early bird offer of RM2000 discount as well.
