The beloved VW compact car celebrates its 40th birthday!

Let’s stop a moment and wish the Volkswagen Polo a huge Happy Birthday! It has been 40 years since the German Giant has introduced the lovable hatchback and has since made a status of its own as the top selling passenger car around the world.
The Polo first made an appearance in 1975 and was a rebadged version of the Audi 50. It shared the internal designation Typ86 and by 1979, the Polo had outsold its donor car at 500,000 worldwide. Now in its fifth generation, the Polo hatchback is one of the brand’s top selling passenger cars around the world.
In 2014, Volkswagen Group Malaysia introduced the locally assembled Polo which we test drove earlier this year. Mr Armin Keller, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Malaysia commented “To date, the status of the Polo in Malaysia is unmatched. With over 13,000 units sold it is no wonder that this practical, yet fun car has captured the hearts of Malaysians. It’s agile but solid performance results in a drive best suited for KL’s busy roads as well as long highways.”
To celebrate the Polo’s birthday, VW Malaysia collaborated with established fashion lifestyle photographer Vincent Paul Yong Photography (VPYP) to produce a photo series that showcases the driving fun with the car. The photographer enlisted the help of DJ duo LAPSAP to create a photo-story that highlights a day in their life.
The photo-series was revealed at a launch event at APW titled WYSIWYG- What You See Is What You Get and will be on showcase until 30 August 2015 for the public to view at an exhibition featuring the Polo.
Launched alongside the photo-series is the Volkswagen Polo Club, the limited edition car will feature extra pieces like a multimedia head unit with navigation and window tint. The Polo Club Hatchback will be yours at RM88,888 and the Polo Sedan Club sells at RM89,888.
