Safe Steps now focuses on road safety

Now you will get to see Michelle Yeoh explaining to us about road safety

Remember those short segments with Manny Pacquiao telling us what to do when natural disasters hit? The Safe Steps programme has now been extended to include road safety as well with none other than Dato’ Michelle Yeoh as the star.

Prudence Foundation, a part of the Prudential Corporation Asia, has teamed up with National Geographic channel, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) along with Michelle Yeoh to create the new Safe Steps Road Safety programme.

According to Global Status Report on Road Safety 2015 compiled by the World Health Organisation, 1.3 million people are killed on roads every year every day. This number does not include the 500 children as well. In another research done by the New Straits Times Online, Malaysia has the higher average of deaths related to traffic at 6000 to 7000 recorded annually.

The new Safe Steps programme is supported by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MoT). The programme will kick off using multiple platforms, along with the same 60-second public service announcement videos like for the natural disaster featuring ambassador Michelle Yeoh there will be informative website and print material shared through community-based activities.

Starting from 15th February 2016, the Safe Steps Road Safety messages will air on 17 channels that are part of the FOX Networks Group Asia Portfolio and will be made available in nine local languages; Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia, Burmese, Cantonese, Khmer, Mandarin, Filipino, Thai and Vietnamese.
