Renault Twizy now on sale at an interesting price

Renault introduces the Twizy the electric…… well let’s just call it a car…

If you’ve been to Renault’s roadshows, you’re sure to have gotten acquainted with this strange looking vehicle. It might not be on sale at that time, but it had garnered tons of interest from the public at those roadshows. If you’ve fallen so deeply for the Twizy and disappointed that it’s not on sale, rejoice, because Renault has announced that they are officially putting the Renault Twizy on sale.
Yes, this four-wheeled vehicle that is not a bike nor car nor trike (it’s got proportions of a scooter though) is one of Renault’s offering for their electric vehicle range, next to the full electric car, the Renault Zoe.
Measuring at just 2.34-metres long and 1.23-metres wide, the Twizy is a nimble little thing for drivers to swoop around town. And guess what, that means that you can park the Twizy at right angles in a parallel parking lot! With a weight of just 450kg (that is at least half the weight of a normal car) and equipped with nippy electric motor that transmit a power output of 17bhp and 57Nm of torque, the Twizy can manage a maximum top speed of 80kph.
For a lightweight vehicle (pardon me if I still can’t figure out where to class the Twizy, Renault calls it a car), you get four disc brakes that  contributes to a playfulness in handling and a firm suspension tuning that ensures stability, safety and security. Other passive safety features include a protective cabin, four-point seat belt for the driver and a driver airbag while the rear passenger also gets a three-point seat belt.
While the Twizy might be an urban road scuttler, Renault Sport Technologies also had a hand in developing the chassis. This gives the Twizy a sure-footed going thanks to the optimised engineering coupled with a very low centre of gravity. The cabin is designed to give the driver all-round visibility in traffic with a windscreen that provides both safety and transparency.
Here’s the most important thing about the Twizy, it is equipped with a 6.1kWh lithium-ion battery located under the front seat. The charging cable is concealed at the front end of the Twizy under a flap and connected to a three point plug. To charge the Twizy, all you need to do is to connect the plug to any 230V/240V outlet and the Twizy will hit full charge in only three-and-a-half hours. At full charge, the Twizy has a distance range of 100km.
Renault has two trim options for the Twizy on offer, the Urban trim and the Cargo trim. The Urban trim comes with a passenger seat at the back while the Cargo trim ditches the passenger seat in favour of a watertight boot with a capacity of 180-litres. The Urban trim is priced at RM71,888.00 while the Cargo trim hits RM73,888.00 on-the-road inclusive of GST without insurance.
Like all Renault passenger cars, the Renault Twizy comes complete with a service interval of 10,000km or six months, whichever comes first. A two-year or 50,000km manufacturer’s warranty for the base vehicle and a three-year or 50,000km manufacturer’s warranty for both the traction battery and electrical drivetrain are on offer as well.
