Perodua once again sends shockwaves in the small car category with the launch of the Axia. By Jerrica Leong

Perodua has been teasing everyone with images and competitions of the Axia since July. As a result Perodua is proud to announce that the Axia is launched with 13,500 bookings received from the public since a month before the launch.

It is the first car produced by Perodua’s modern and environmental friendly new manufacturing plant and makes history as the first Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) model made by a Malaysian company with support from its partner, Daihatsu Motor Company of Japan (DMC).

“Axia” is the combination of the word Asia and X as a roman numeral for the number ten, the number signifies the Axia as Perodua’s 10th model. The car can manage 66bhp at 6000rpm and 90Nm at 3600rpm. The Axia is also equipped with an Electric Power Steering (EPS) to steer the car around a turning radius of 4.5-meters.

The Axia has an overall length of 3640mm and a width of 1620mm with a height of 1510mm. Perodua boasts that the Axia has plenty of legroom and a boot space of 260-litre in spite of its compact size.
There are four variants for the Perodua Axia; the Standard E that comes only with a manual five speed transmission, the Standard G, the SE and, the highest variant, Advanced.

The variants can be easily distinguish from each other as only the SE and the Advanced have the Sporty bumper design and side skirtings with chrome finish along with rear spoilers. All variants except the Standard E comes with alloy wheel rims. You get semi-bucket leather seats in the highest Advanced version and a multimedia system with navigation as well!

This brand new Perodua also has safety and security features such as ABS with EBD and BA. You would be glad to know that the Axia has an ASEAN NCAP rating of four stars.

Car buyers are spoiled for choice when it comes to the colour choices, they can choose between eight colours including new editions like Cherry Blossom, Lemon Grass Green, Sunflower Yellow and Lava Red.

Perodua’s EEV Axia comes with a five-year warranty. This is the first time Perodua offers a warranty more than three years for their cars. At the launch, Perodua introduced a whole new price list for the Axia starting from RM24,600 to RM42,530 for Peninsular Malaysia.
