At the core of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, is a culture of innovation and excellence. This vision is extended beyond the production of vehicles and includes every aspect of customer service. To promote and foster the spirit of self-development and life-long learning in their employees they organised a friendly competition known as the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Skills Competition 2014.

The competition first started in 2008 and is held every alternate year. It encourages voluntary participation from their employees and tests candidates according to their job profile. Mercedes-Benz is also proud to say that a grand total of participation of 284 candidates this year, a growing number compared to when they competition just started. 

This year is their fourth year and the 2014 edition has seen an addition of six categories to the original two. The categories include Certified Maintenance Technician and Certified Diagnosis Technician, Certified Service Advisor, Certified System Technician, Certified Parts Process Specialist, Certified Maintenance Technician - Passenger cars, Certified Maintenance Technician - Commercial Vehicles and Automotive Mechatronic.

Qualifying started in May across centres around the country (yes the competition is extended to all Mercedes-Benz centres nationwide), followed by the semi-finals in July and culminated with a theory and practical test as well as knowledge quiz held over two consecutive days. 

Participations are tested on a broad scope ranging from technical know-how to general Mercedes-Benz knowledge. They are also graded on technical performance evaluated in terms of safety, quality, skills, product knowledge and organisation of work.

All 35 finalists of the Mercedes-Benz Skills Competition 2014 received cash rewards totalling up to RM112,500 and the Champions received trophies for their dedication as well.
