The original M machine comes to Malaysia

The reincarnation of the BMW 2002 Turbo is now here in Malaysia. Say hello to the M2 Coupe!

BMW is calling this the ultimate M machine since the E30 M5 and the predecessor of the BMW 2002 Turbo, and why not, the new M2 Coupe is set up to present to drivers with the marque’s outstanding dynamics, exceptional agility and optimum car control.

Created from BMW M GmbH, the M2 Coupe is easily recognised to be part of the M family. Not because of the numerous M badging around the car but because of the M-Specific exterior features. With its wide-stance and low-slung front apron with large air inlets, trapezoidal blades and Air Curtains to deliver optimised aerodynamics matches up with the stylish M design black-painted double bars on the signature kidney grille.

Along with the signature M kidney grilles, you also get the characteristic M gills on the M2’s muscular flanks along with other M design elements all the way down to the 19-inch aluminium wheels with M double-spoke design.

Fun is provided by the three-litre six-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo technology complete with TwinScroll turbocharge, High Precision Injection, Double-VANOS variable camshaft control, and Valvetronic variable valve control. Drivers will get an output of 370bhp and 465Nm of torque, 500Nm is available with the short-term maximum overboost function.

Pair the M TwinPower Turbo engine with a seven-speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic complete with Launch Control function, be ready to do the century sprint in just 4.3-seconds. Don’t worry, the M2 is still rather fuel efficient considering the power the car produces with a reading of 7.9-l/100km and CO2 emissions of 185g/km.

Drivelogic also offers functions like Stability Clutch Control that disengages the clutch when necessary to prevent oversteer and a Smokey Burnout function that gives tyre-burning lovers the opportunity to indulge in a degree of rear wheel spin while the car is moving at low speeds.

BMW has also done quite a lot of weight-reducing replacements for the M2 Coupe like using a lightweight aluminium design for the front and rear axles. Those stylish wheels are also made of forged aluminium with mixed-size tyres as well as M Servotronic steering and M compound brakes.

On the inside, passengers will be reminded that they are sitting in a BMW M Powered car every angle they look thanks to features such as the M footrest and knee support, M Sports steering wheel and M gearshift level. The seats are covered in Alcantara upholstery while the dash is covered with open-pored carbon surfaces.

The brand new BMW ConnectedDrive first introduced in the X1 is also available in the M2 Coupe. So you get to make use of the Concierge Service and Intelligent Emergency Call features that comes with the car. Of course being an M car, the M2’s ConnectedDrive system also has a GoPro app to allow drivers to record fast laps on the track with the dashboard mounted action camera via iDrive Controller and Control Display.

BMW M2 Coupe is only available in Long Beach Blue Metallic and retails on the road, without insurance at RM498,800.00. The M2 will come complete with BMW Group Malaysia’s latest 5 years Unlimited Warranty, Free Scheduled Service Program and BMW Tyre Warranty Programme.
