The 6 Series gets Gran Coupe-ed

If you’ve been itching to own the four-door coupe from BMW than here’s your chance.

Only just yesterday we looked at the 3.0 CSL, but back in 2007, BMW had intended to revive the standard CS that the CSL was based off. That 2007 BMW CS Concept never made it into production but years later BMW had converted the CS Concept into the new BMW 640i Gran Coupe. And now, the 640i GC is finally here in Malaysia to give the four-door executive coupe market a good shake.
The 640i shares the same front and rear fascia as the normal 6 Series, only the 640i has a longer wheelbase by 4.5-inches. The stylish precise lines of the sleek contoured surfaces of the 640i are further accentuated with the M Sport package that comes as standard with all 640is. The M Sport package offers the M Aerodynamic kit which includes front and rear aprons as well as sill covers on the side in the body colour.
Adaptive LED headlights and Selective Beam decorates the front end of the car while the kidney grilles appear larger with nine grille slats rimmed by matt black sides angled slightly towards the top to give the 640i the signature shark nose character. In the back, a sporty bumper available in Dark Shadow Metallic courtesy of the M Sport package is paired with horizontal lines that further accentuate the car’s sporty capabilities.
The conspicuously flared wheel arches and underbody meanwhile, underlines the horizontal structure and gives the car a wider track. Drag is further reduced and fuel efficiency is enhanced thanks to the horizontal structure while the tyres wear stylish 19-inch M double-spoke light alloy wheels as standard.
Head inside, Nappa leather upholstery (available in Ivory white/ black or Cognac) wraps the seats while the centre console’s sophisticated black panel is finished with the central Information Display that now comes with a frameless design. The display is combined with the in-plane switching (IPS) technology to provide less dependence on viewing angle and improved visibility in sunlight.
And now for the exciting bit, the 640i is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine that is capable of powering the Gran Coupe to a max output of 320bhp with torque peaking at 450Nm. The 640i does the century sprint in just 5.4 seconds and revs to a top speed of 250kph. But BMW is proud to say that despite those impressive numbers, the 640i is still impressively economical with an average fuel economy reading of 7.8-litres per 100km and CO2 emissions of just 182g per kilometre.
Installed in the 640i Gran Coupe is a new sports exhaust system with an adjustable flap. The exhaust system gives the car a sporty sound especially when the car is set in Sport mode giving further emphasis on the car’s sportiness.
The BMW 640i Gran Coupe will set you back RM788,800.00 on the road without insurance and will come with BMW’s new five-years unlimited mileage warranty and free scheduled service program.
