Perodua sponsors Malaysia’s second shot at Formula 1

Carmaker gets behind country's next potential Formula 1 driver

Ever since 2002, when Alex Yoong left Formula 1, Malaysia hasn’t been able to produce a driver worthy enough of the sport. Some 14 years down the line however, Nabil Jeffrri is doing Malaysia proud by setting himself on a path that’s going to put him in a Formula 1 car very soon indeed. Malaysians can be doubly proud as well because Perodua is in on the action.

Perodua, Malaysia’s most successful carmaker, is sponsoring Nabil Jeffri in his efforts to racing glory. Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Dr. Zahari Husin, believes that Nabil is a strong inspiration to the youth of this generation and is happy to back the young champion as he climbs the ladder to podium victory. A wise move by Perodua indeed. It’s not every day you see the company name and logo on the side of a racing car.

Muhammad Nabil Jan Al Jeffri has made a very big name for himself among the big wigs of motorsport. In 2010, at the tender age of 16, Nabil was performing aerodynamic tests for the Lotus Racing Formula One team in their Lotus T127 race car run by Lotus principal Tony Fernandes at the time. This put Nabil in the history books at the youngest Formula 1 test driver ever and definitely turned a few heads. A huge breakthrough but also much deserved.

Nabil has been in the motorsport field since he started karting in 2002 (coincidentally the same time Malaysia got out of Formula 1). Winning the Asian Overall Champion at the age of 11, he’s been moving up ever since from the Formula BMW Pacific, JK Racing Asia, German Formula Three, European Formula 3 and now at the GP2 series. The next step being Formula 1. We’re pretty sure Nabil and our Malaysian fans are eagerly waiting to watch him race at Formula 1 in 2018 and see another Malaysian lining up on the grid of motorsport’s premiere series.
