Asian Le Mans Series Final Round in Sepang!

Unfortunate start for the Aylezo racing team but that didn’t stop the team from fighting back

This is it, the last four hours of racing for the 2016/2017 season of Asian Le Mans Series. Anything can happen during the race and the Aylezo Ecotint Racing team are prepared to weather through the conditions.

After clocking in encouraging lap times during the Free Practice sessions, the Aylezo team’s hopes are high to pull a spectacular end to their season. While this is the first experience racing at the Sepang International Circuit for 28-year-old Riki Christodoulou, drivers Weiron Tan and Zen Low are no strangers to the race track. Weiron Tan also set a blistering qualifying time of 2:00.032 putting the team firmly in P6 in the LMP3 category.

Unfortunately for the team, the race start didn’t go as well as they had planned as their Ginetta LMP3 race car was clipped by one of the GT cars in the first corner melee. Damages on the car’s aerodynamics forced the team to make an unscheduled stop to make repairs to the car. This effectively put the team a lap down from the leaders when they rejoined the race.

Returning to the race a lap down did not deter the team’s hope to finish on a high. The drivers fought back with all they have despite the damage on the car compromising the handling at high-speed corners from sixth to finish fourth in their class.

“This is by far our best race for the season. Aside from the accident at Turn 1, we had a very smooth run which was exactly what we were hoping for,” said Zen. “We started the race in P6 and finished in P4. I think that’s a pretty satisfying result and we’ll definitely try again next season,” he added.

After four rounds of the Asian Le Mans Series, the Aylezo Ecotint Racing Team has raked in a total of 24 points putting them seventh overall in the LMP3 category.
