Scuderia Ferrari announces driver line-up for 2016 F1 season

With positive results from the first half of the season, Scuderia Ferrari has decided to extend their contract with their world champion.

Scuderia Ferrari has announced that Kimi Raikkonen will be staying another year at the team. Scuderia Ferrari has extended their technical and racing agreement with the Flying Finn, so that means that Raikkonen will be racing alongside fellow champion Sebastian Vettel for the upcoming 2016 season.
This will mark Raikkonen’s sixth year with the scarlet team having raced for the team from 2007 to 2009 winning one world championship in 2007 and two constructor’s championship for the team. Left without a race seat for 2010, Raikkonen started a brief spell in Rallying and Nascar but in 2012, Raikkonen made his return to the sport as a Lotus driver before signing another contract to race for Ferrari once again.
Kimi Raikkonen: “What can I say… For me, to be able to stay another year at Ferrari means that the dream goes on. The Scuderia is my family, as I always said, it’s here I want to end my career. I am more committed than ever and I want to say thank you to the people who gave me this chance. Also, a big thank you goes to all my Ferrari fans, for their continuous support”.
Also commenting on Raikkonen’s contract extension is Team Principle Maurizio Arrivabene: “We believe that extending Kimi’s contract into the next season will provide further stability to the team. This has been our guideline, also considering the very good relationship between Kimi and Seb. On our side, this shows our great confidence in him, and I expect this confidence to be well rewarded”.
The announcement couldn’t have come at a better time, with the Belgian Grand Prix happening this weekend Ferrari has high hopes that they will walk away from that race winners, it is after all the Flying Finn’s favourite track and his most successful to date. Be sure to catch both Raikkonen and team mate Sebastian Vettel in action at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit!

End with the summer break and on to Spa!
