This happened while you were enjoying your weekend

With the first testing in Barcelona just days away, the F1 teams scrambled to launch their latest contender.

We’re a month away from the start of the 2016 F1 season and in Daniel Ricciardo’s words “this is the most exciting time for the sport”. And they were no truer words he could have said as everybody rushed to launch their new team livery and cars to the world within the span of a few days.

As you know, the team who jump-started the launch was the Lotus F1 team, now known as the Renault Sport F1 team. The team is one of the only teams who announced a complete change of driver line-up with Jolyon Palmer and McLaren star Kevin Magnussen taking up their places for the team. The team will still run with the black and gold livery but with Renault and Infiniti logos littering the car.

The second team to make their debut is Red Bull Racing, now returned to their former team livery that is signature to Red Bull. Currently, the only technical detail that we have collected is the car’s production number and nothing else. We’ve tried scouring the internet to confirm the team’s use of the Renault engine but to no luck…

Williams also pull off the covers for their new car, the Williams Mercedes FW38, on the same day as the Ferrari team. Williams, like the rest of the grid, has an unchanged driver line-up, so you will still spy Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas piloting the FW38 in Barcelona.

Ferrari has joined the pointed nose club! The team had held a massive competition known as #readysetred inviting a number of lucky fans to join the team as they unveiled their latest car. It’s all a very hyped up affair with the team making full use of their social media platforms releasing not just photos and a little bit of detail about the car but even animations and videos of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastien Vettel making a walk around of the car!

World Champions Mercedes took a rather different approach to unveiling the W07 Hybrid. The team also debut their car on social media but they had an illustrator draw out the car rather than pulling a cover off the car accompanied by a few posts of the new engine along with a video of World Champion Lewis Hamilton explaining what has changed on the car.

McLaren-Honda also introduced the MP4-31 during the weekend. Looking more black then metallic now than last year, the MP4-31 made its appearance in dramatic fashion. But not before introducing a long-term fashion partner of course, the team will now be joined on the grid by Richard Mille. These fashion brand partnerships are turning into massive news, it’s as if they’re introducing a new engine partnership of something. But that saying, we really hope to see McLaren back to the mid-grid shuffle this year.

In the midst of the social media launches, Sauber had a relatively low key launch. Other than a few changes here and there, the C32-Ferrari looks unchanged compared to last year’s car that Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson drove. From what we can gather on their Facebook page, the team’s unique car nose is their innovation of the season making the car gain resemblance with a platypus.

So that’s what the F1 family have been up to the entire weekend: launching and uploading videos of their brand new competitors that will be piloted by their world class drivers. What do we expect to see from the teams this year? Click to discuss it!
